The best index is usually smaller than expected. A date, a clear title, and one sentence about why something mattered are enough to make most things findable again.
Long categories tend to create more decisions than they remove. A short list of broad subjects works better, especially when entries can be found by their own words.
Three useful rules
- Write the title in language you would search for later.
- Keep the original source beside the note.
- Delete entries that no longer explain why they were saved.
The aim is not to preserve everything. It is to leave a reliable path back to the few things that continue to be useful.
